Project Type – Commercial
Location – London
Main Contractor – QOB Interiors
Harlow Glass completed installation of a new commercial curtain walling frontage to 183-203 Old Street in London. The project required full design development, fabrication and installation. The design intent required minimal framing with large expanses of glass. A strict industrial aesthetic drove the design development with the project architects. A bespoke design with exposed connection to a steel primary structure was approved. The fabrication stage of the project required a full survey to pick up the variations in the existing structure. Careful detailing around new additions was also required.
Access to units was provided by automatic commercial sliding doors with integrated access controls. The auto-mechanism was integrated into the frame to minimise the internal sight lines. External signage was achieved through bespoke fixing points. These were integrated into the curtain walling to allow future adaptability and re-location as required. Finally a tailored fire proofing detail was developed with the input of building control. This allowed fire breaks to be achieved at the party wall junctions between commercial units.
The installation phase required careful planning of the delivery and fitting of the frames and glass. The process included crossing spaces open to the public. Existing retail units were also open during the project and strict health and safety measures were required. The installation was completed with minimal disruption and on budget.
