Products – Frameless Glazed Screens, Back Painted Glass
Project Type – Public
Location – London
Main Contractor – Sherlock
This project included external frameless glass screens along with internal back painted glass. The facade of the gallery is a major feature of the design from the office of award winning architect Zaha Hadid. The design included the typical organic curves synonymous with Hadid and posed a particular install challenge.
However through close dialogue with the main contractor a viable solution was proposed. This allowed for a successful initial installation. It also meant that any future replacement would be easily completed. The screens had to integrate with doors and their framing seamlessly.
Where the glazing required two panels a silicone joint was applied. This helped to maintain the frameless appearance of the screens. The double glazed units are installed into a thermally broken perimeter frame. This helps to ensure the thermal performance of the openings meets building standards. The framing is installed behind the sculpted cladding making the screens appear as cuts into the organic form.
Internally back painted glass panels were installed in various locations. These again worked seamlessly with the curves of the interior design.
